A dramatic change in Butzbach: Sascha Huber from the CDU won the mayor election against the incumbent Michael Merle from the SPD! The new city leader was officially announced on Sunday evening with a narrow lead of over 1000 votes. The previous mayor, who departed after 18 years in office on February 28, 2025, congratulated his successor personally and showed himself to be in sports.

The choice was not without tension: the results were only displayed on the screen after a long waiting time, which caused confusion. But when the numbers were certain, the joy was great with Huber. He promised to bring a breath of fresh air to Butzbach and further drive the city. The first city councilor Bernhard Dern brought the official congratulations and emphasized that voters had trusted Huber. Merle, who led the city for 18 years, accepted the defeat calmly and announced that it would support Huber from March 1st.

Merle thanked for the support during his term and explained that an election defeat was part of democracy. "It is not a disaster," he said, announcing that he will go out of the town hall. Huber himself was surprised by the clear result and plans to make the transition to the new term quickly. "Today I would like to sleep in and have breakfast with my wife," said the newly elected mayor. Merle, who found the choice as disappointing, wants to spend the evening with his children and continue to work in the town hall. A new section for Butzbach has started!
