Two star restaurant Igniv Bad Ragaz closes at the end of the year!

The Igniv Bad Ragaz, a renowned restaurant and the first sharing restaurant of the Caminada family, will close its doors on January 31, 2026. This decision marks the end of a remarkable gastronomic era that began with the foundation by star chef Andreas Caminada in 2015. Under his leadership, the restaurant received 16 Gault & Millau points and a Michelin star in the same year before it was later awarded a second Michelin star and 18 Gault & Millau points. According to Vol.at in recent years has established itself as a leading fine dining goal.

As part of the upcoming closure, Andreas Caminada said that he could not understand the decision, but respect the strategic change of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz. The new general manager Simon Spiller also supports this decision on a realignment of the gastronomic offer and a renovation of the Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz, which is scheduled to begin in February 2026. He intends to strengthen the own brands in the fine dining and address a younger target group.

The concept of Igniv

The igniv, which means "nest" in a romanesque manner, offers a special "fine dining sharing experience". The dishes served in the historic vaulted room of the Grand Resort focus on the well -being of the guests and the meal together. Chef Joël Ellenberger, who has been responsible for the kitchen since 2022, remains there for the guests. The team is planning an anniversary week from December 3, 2025, filled with culinary events to say goodbye.

A striking feature of this restaurant is the sharing concept, in which several small dishes are served in the middle of the table to enjoy them together. The culinary experience is accompanied by a competent sommelier and a charming service team that also offers an excellent wine list with many regional wines. Another highlight is the impressive candy store of the restaurant, which also inspires the guests. The opening times of the Igniv are from Wednesday- Saturday: 6.30pm- 10pm and Sunday: 12 p.m.- 1.30 p.m. & 6.30pm- 10pm, whereby the restaurant is closed during the summer and autumn holidays, from June 10th to October 20 to November 4th.

Future plans of the Caminada Group

The Caminada Group plans to integrate the current team into new projects that are supposed to focus on casual dining formats. With the closure of the Igniv not only ends a gastronomic institution, but also opens up new opportunities for the chefs and the service team to use their experiences and skills in other formats.

In the context of Michelin-Stern restaurants, the gastronomic landscape is characterized by continuity and change. A total of 300 star restaurants were recorded in the last Michelin awards in Munich, a sign of the flourishing fine dining scene. With pleasure Munich has documented recent developments in the restaurant sector and shows that a culinary highlight will soon change in Bad Ragaz.
