Vienna Wine Prize 2025: Brilliant Gala Spread the Best Drops!

Wien, Österreich - On June 4, 2025, the festive award of the Vienna State winner in 2025 took place in the Arkadenhof of the Vienna City Hall. Mayor Michael Ludwig honored the winners at a gala event and thus focused on the importance of Vienna viticulture. With 13 national winners and wines from 26 Viennese wine -growing companies, the wine bar was an absolute highlight of the event. During the evening, the focus was on the 2024 vintage, which despite a hot and dry summer and an extraordinary nature event that led to flooding in Eastern Austria in September 2024.

Despite adverse weather conditions, the grapes survived the rain phases well. The damage affected the vineyards, while the wines of the 2024 vintage are fruity and convincing with a refreshing, digestible acidity. There were four double winners who stood out:

  • Karl Lentner with Ried Kirchberg Alte Reben 2024 and Viennese mixed set of Riedenweine
  • rainer Christ for his classic Rieslings and Chardonnay
  • Weingut Mayer on the parish square with strong Rieslingen Ried Nussberg 2024 and sparkling wine brood
  • Peter Bernreiter with the red wine cuvée "Il Trittico" 2023

Wolfgang Hofer was awarded for his Grauburgunder "Mr. Hofer" and Zweigelt private Grande Reserve. Michael Edlmoser received an honor for Frizzante Blanc de Blancs. In addition, Philipp Schmidt from Hagenbrunn won with his Viennese mixed set of local wine Bisamberg in 2024. A total of 57 companies took part in the competition, with 390 wines being submitted. It was particularly striking that the Viennese mixed sentence with 109 wines provided the main category, closely followed by green Veltliners (49), Rieslingen (43) and white burgundy varieties (52).

In addition to the gala, the new year 2024 of the Viennese mixed sentence DAC will be presented in the Museumsquartier Vienna on March 20, 2025. This event will be open to both specialist audience and wine lovers. Expert visitors can register for an exclusive tasting, while the general admission is designed from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event is organized by the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture and the Vienna State Bath of Agriculture. The ticket prices are 20 euros in advance and at the Tageskassa at 23 euros. It is important to note that the Viennese mixed sentence is subject to strict criteria in terms of its quality and design, which clearly distinguish it from other variants.
