Certainly on Argentinierstraße: District Vice calls for improvements
Argentinierstraße in Wieden is about to open on Monday, December 9th. Deputy Deputy Deputy Pascal Riepl from the Greens has expressed some concerns in view of the upcoming celebrations. He emphasizes that despite the redesign, there are still security gaps, especially with regard to car traffic that flows through the street.
Riepl wants the safety of the cyclists to be put in the foreground, since many cars incorrectly continue on Argentinierstraße, where they should actually turn left into Weyringergasse. These unauthorized trips create dangerous situations that endanger the safety of cyclists.
Requirements for better traffic safety
District head Lea Halbwidl from the SPÖ, which also supports the planning for the bicycle road, commented on the concerns of Riepl. She made it clear that the bicycle road worked well, but measures have already been initiated to fix the problems caused by the redesign. A traffic count commissioned by your office made it possible to change the one -way regulation on Argentinierstrasse in order to reduce unauthorized through traffic.
In addition, changes to Favoritenstraße should further reduce traffic loads so as not to unnecessarily burden the residents. The own turn into Schelleingasse is broken down to make the passage through Argentinierstrasse more unattractive.
Extensive redesign measures
The upcoming opening of the bicycle road takes place after an intensive planning and participation process that lasted over two years and is based on the Dutch role models. The aim was to increase the security and quality of life of the residents. This led to the sealing of around 2,500 square meters of space, for planting 70 new trees and for the creation of around 100 new green beds.
Halb-Widl is pleased with the previous progress and the planned enlargement of the St. Elisabeth Square, which is equipped with new play equipment in order to further increase the lounge for families and children. With these measures, the Grätzl is intended to become a more lively and inviting place for all residents.
The measures to improve traffic steering and the feeling of security in Argentinierstrasse are of immense importance, and the district policy will continue to observe developments. As Halb -Widl emphasizes, concrete proposals will continue to be checked for their feasibility.
