Vienna chooses: SPÖ presents strong candidates for April elections!
On February 17, 2025, the SPÖ state party chairman and mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, presented the candidate list for the pre-laid elections on April 27 together with the state party secretary Barbara Novak in the Vienna town hall. With an impressive number of 300 nominated candidates on the state list and 297 for the constituency list, Ludwig will again be the top candidate. He explained that this decision aimed to avoid a long election campaign and at the same time ensure that a stable state government can be formed before the summer. "I am very happy about the unity with which the SPÖ Vienna is going into this choice," says Ludwig.
The list includes a broad representation of all ages and members of the social partners. According to Novak, new faces are also expected, including lawyers with experience in tenancy law and specialists for school social work. A particularly important element is the fairness agreement, which the SPÖ signed together with the coalition partner Neos and now also the Greens. Among other things, this agreement regulates the election campaign costs of 5 million euros and measures against misinformation as well as misleading content, such as expanded.
Michael Ludwig in focus
Michael Ludwig is not only a key person in Viennese politics, but also an experienced player in the SPÖ. Since his election as the mayor and governor of Vienna in May 2018, he has promoted numerous important projects. He campaigned particularly to strengthen the residential construction and the improvement of the urban infrastructure, which earned him the title "concrete mayor", as reported wikipedia ). This name is in the context of its controversial construction projects, including the controversial road construction project in the city. Ludwig's political work is drawn by his retreat from the federal committees of the SPÖ in October 2023 and its commitment to a new tenancy law, which raises questions about the future political orientation of the Vienna SPÖ.
