U-railway changes: important information for Viennese passengers
After the recent storms in the Eastern region, there are changes in public transport. The U2 and U4 subway lines are particularly affected by restrictions that will last until the end of the year. These measures are necessary to carry out necessary maintenance and modernization work.
The U4 line will drive in longer intervals by the end of December. As a result, only every second train will run beyond Schwedenplatz to the final station Heiligenstadt. This road closure can leave frustration passengers because the waiting times in Rush-Hour times will be longer.
restrictions on the U2
The U2 has not remained undamaged either. Due to modernization work, it is temporarily only used between the Seestadt and Schottentor stations. The resumption of the company between Schottentor and Karlsplatz will only be possible at the end of 2024, which results in longer changeover times.
replacement offers and alternative routes
In order to guarantee the passengers as good as possible, various replacement offers are introduced. The U1 is increasingly managed, which means that there will be moves more often. In addition, an additional U2Z tram line is set up to compensate for the U2 failures.
- The lines D, 1, 2 and 71 are also available for transitional movements.
- Particularly important for passengers of the U1: The Kagran station is not served in the direction of Leopoldau until November 24th. In order to get there, switching into a train in the other is necessary.
There is also newer information about the western route of the railway. From December 15th, full operation will be restored after the train traffic between Vienna and Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Munich and other destinations has been gradually started. This return to normal operation means that citizens can reach their travel destinations faster again.
The restrictions ensure inconvenience, but the Viennese lines as well as the Rheinbahn strive to make alternative ways available to the daily commuters. The exception are the track work that affects lines 1, 62 and Badner Bahn by the end of November. Here a detour is offered via the South Tyrolean Platz/main station.
A special shuttle service was also set up for passengers restricted mobility. This can be used by phone on +43 (0) 664 884 865 14
