Police prohibits right -wing demonstrations in Vienna: security interests predominate
On November 9, the right group "Fair Thinking" in Vienna would have wanted to carry out several demonstrations to support the FPÖ. However, this day is historically stressed because it is reminiscent of the "November pogroms" of 1938. This led to violent criticism from the political landscape, which caused the organizers to rethink. They described the original plans as "faux pas" and moved the demos to November 30th. In the city center, Herbert Kickl was to be protested for the so-called "People's Chancellor", also against the release of long-range missiles by US President Joe Biden for Ukraine.
But now this project has also failed. The Viennese police announced that the planned demos with the titles "For our peace - end - send diplomats!" And "Peace-Freedom-Neutrality for our Austria. No to the Sugar Coalition !!!" were prohibited. This was done on the basis of the Assembly Act, since the police placed the interests of the economy and the flow of traffic in the city center on the right to assembly.
background to the decision of the police
The reason of the police is clear: it was found that the right to freedom of work in the shops in the Vienna shopping streets and the general interest in an undisturbed flow of traffic are more important than the implementation of the planned meetings. Another point is that holding a non -registered or prohibited demonstration can result in legal consequences. The police have already announced that such inadmissible meetings can be dissolved.
This is not the first time that such a large demonstration in downtown Vienna is prohibited. A large demonstration of the public service was recently demolished after an agreement on the salary increase was reached at short notice. The developments regarding the "fair thinking" demonstrations remain excited. Their support of the political agenda is thus severely restricted by the restrictive measures of the authorities.
