New street park in Vienna: 60 trees for a better quality of life!

On October 24, 2025, the first street park in Vienna, located between Steigenteschgasse and Wintzingerodestraße, will be completed. This innovative park is part of the comprehensive project to transform Wagramer Straße, which was previously a main thoroughfare. As part of the “Get Out of the Asphalt Offensive”, a new green oasis with around 60 new trees and a total area of 6,500 square meters is being created here. The street park will not only increase the quality of living, but also make a significant contribution to improving the urban climate. This reports Vienna.gv.at.

The redesigned Wagramer Straße will now offer more space for pedestrians and cyclists. In addition to space for 24 lounge areas, 11 drinking fountains and 6 water features, there are also 35 mist steles to keep you cool on hot days. The entire area will be designed to be climate-friendly with light-colored paving, contributing to a total area of 8,700 square meters. Over 140 new green spaces have already been created as part of the project. These measures underline the city's commitment to creating urban green space and promoting nature-based recreation for citizens, such as Neos Vienna communicates.

Sustainable mobility and urban development

The new street park is not only a green retreat, but also part of a larger mobility concept. The mega cycle highway stretches 7 kilometers and connects several districts, including the redesigned Wagramer Straße between Donauzentrum and Kagraner Platz. This structurally separated two-way cycle path is 1.1 kilometers long and will make cycling in Vienna safer and more comfortable. According to the planners, the project was decided by the Planning and Mobility Committee to promote active mobility in the city.

The objectives pursued in the area of urban development and climate policy are in line with the recommendations of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction. This emphasizes the need for coordinated action to maintain and develop urban green spaces. Historically, such initiatives have also emerged in response to current challenges such as climate change, population growth and extreme weather events.

The entire project is part of the comprehensive “Get out of the asphalt” initiative, which already includes 344 projects in 23 districts. The initiative's remarkable figures demonstrate its success: 3,316 newly planted trees and 2,000 square meters of water features are part of the extensive redesign program. This not only increases the quality of life in the districts, but also makes an important contribution to climate protection.
