Mafiosi Dexter” remains behind bars for life – trial under high security!

In a dramatic conclusion to the proceedings against the notorious mafia godfather Dario D., better known as “Dexter”, the Vienna Higher Regional Court (OLG) has rejected the appeal against the original verdict and confirmed the life sentence. As the Small newspaper reported, “Dexter” was active between 2020 and 2021 as a leading member of an extensive Montenegrin mafia clan, where he contributed significantly to the drug distribution in Vienna. In total, he circulated 340 kilograms of cocaine, 50 kilograms of heroin and five kilograms of cannabis and also organized smuggling trips for a further 140 kilograms of cocaine and 35 kilograms of heroin. The Senate Chairwoman explained that due to the “exorbitant amount of drug” and the “personality of the perpetrator” there was no room for a more lenient sentence.

The trial took place under extraordinary security precautions. Dozens of police cars and special units such as Cobra, Wega and the SEK of the Judicial Guard were deployed to ensure that no attempts to escape could be made. The Palace of Justice was hermetically sealed; Even lawyers and interpreters had to go through strict security checks. “Dexter” was led into the hearing room in handcuffs and ankle cuffs and was also secured with a waist belt oe24 reported.

No chance of a lighter sentence

Despite his claims of innocence and requests for a reduced sentence, "Dexter's" plea was rejected by the judges. His long criminal history, including convictions for aggravated murder in Serbia and aggravated robbery in Vienna, was seen as a deciding factor in imposing the maximum sentence. The judges emphasized the importance of the many drug-related deaths linked to his actions and made it clear that the seriousness of his crimes warranted a life sentence.
