24 days of music: Vienna's Advent calendar ensures unforgettable encounters!
With a unique event in December 2025, Vienna will become a city full of musical surprises. From December 1st to 24th, the Austrian capital will be transformed into a stage for the great musical diversity, organized by the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in cooperation with the city of Vienna.
Under the concept of a pop-up Advent calendar, 24 musical encounters will take place every day in all districts of Vienna. After the opening takes place on December 1st in a festive setting in the Vienna City Hall, the audience can experience how young talents and ensembles from the mdw present themselves in concerts lasting around 20 to 30 minutes in numerous unconventional locations in the following weeks.
Variety of events
The opening concert will be accompanied by various contributions, including from mdw Saxophone Orchestra, the Motus Quartet as well as the choir of the Anton Bruckner Institute and the mdw Percussion Ensemble. The welcome is given by Veronica Kaup-Hasler and Ulrike Sych. Those interested in participating must register in advance.
The musical performances enliven places such as markets, shopping centers, the Vienna Central Cemetery and ice skating rinks. Visitors can experience a Library Concert in the main library on December 2nd at 4 p.m. or sing along to the Christmas Carol Sing Along on December 3rd at 5 p.m. on the mdw campus.
