Traffic chaos threatens: Large events ensure test of patience in Vienna!

This weekend in Austria will be expected with considerable traffic disruptions, especially in the Vienna area. The rainbow parade, which takes place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, attracts tens of thousands of participants. From midday hours, the city center is blocked in a large scale because the parade runs to the road in the opposite direction. Based on these measures, considerable traffic problems, such as locks, detours and traffic jams, are expected to be in the evening. The ARBÖ advises to use the car only in an emergency because the Situation will be challenging, especially for road users who want to go to the city center.

In addition to the rainbow parade, several important events take place. Above all, the Nova Rock Festival in Nickelsdorf, which takes place until June 14th, attracts tens of thousands of music fans and leads to high arrival traffic. A wave of return is also expected on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, which is considered a test of patience. The traffic situation is also tightened by the Ironman Austria in Klagenfurt on Sunday, June 15th. There are extensive locks in Klagenfurt, Velden and on Lake Wörthersee from the early hours of the morning. These streets, including Kärntner Straße (B83) and Wörthersee Süduferstraße (L96), are expected to be blocked between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.

Another event that could cause traffic disruptions is the 5-lake marathon in the Salzkammergut in Mondsee, which also takes place on Sunday. While the racetrack remains open to traffic, temporary delays cannot be ruled out. The ARBÖ recommends that road users switch to public transport if possible to avoid traffic jams. In Innsbruck, the organizers of the Holi Summer Festival expect delays on Innsbrucker Straße (B174) on Saturday, June 14th, which the situation there is also complicated.

The traffic load is also reinforced by construction work on the A10 Tauernautobahn, where traffic jams of up to 46 kilometers have recently been measured. Patience is also required at the Vienna Southeast Tangent in front of the construction site at the Prater knot. In view of the multitude of events and the associated traffic flows, drivers are advised to find out about current traffic information at an early stage and to plan alternative routes if necessary. Statistics on traffic data, as published in "Transport statistics 2021", show that traffic fluctuations are subject to intensive fluctuations, especially at large events.
