Negotiations between FPÖ and ÖVP: Big hurdles in front of coalition profi!
In a dramatic comeback, the negotiations between the FPÖ and the ÖVP have been resumed today, February 10, 2025. After there was a standstill in the previous week and even "radio silence" between the parties, the party leader Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) and Christian Stocker (ÖVP) met again at the negotiating table, such as 5min.at reported. The incidents ranged from insurmountable differences in the distribution of departments to heated discussions regarding the Interior Ministry, which both parties claim.
The FPÖ offered the ÖVP the Foreign Ministry at the weekend, which should also include the EU skills that were previously located in the Chancellery. However, the Ministry of the Interior remains the sticking point of the talks. According to The ÖVP could signal that it could do without the finance department, but it would be "unbearable" to lose both departments to the freedom. In the meantime, protocols appeared from the negotiations that indicate basic differences, for example in relation to asylum policy and the financing of social benefits.
violent demands of the FPÖ
In the recent negotiations, the FPÖ calls for “pushbacks” at the external borders and would like to suspend the right of asylum through an “emergency law”. The FPÖ also shows clear positions in relation to medical services for asylum seekers, which are to be reduced on the basis of “necessary basic care”, but this is due to violent controversy. The coalition still has the opportunity to come about, but Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen is already preparing for possible alternatives - be it new elections or an expert government if the negotiations should fail.Details | |
