Holidaymakers snap burglars: Police hold perpetrators in Spittal!
Spittal/Drau, Österreich - On June 24, 2025, a German vacationer reported a break -in into an alpine hut in the Spittal/Drau district. The incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. when the witness watched a man climbed out of the hut through a window and hit another window. The holidaymaker immediately informed the state control center of the Carinthia police and sent a precise description of the personal description and the exact crime scene to the civil servants. These immediately started initial investigations. Certainly this is an urgent example of the importance of civil courage and fast action in such situations.
The police immediately contacted the owner of the hut and searched the area around the crime scene. A little later, a 51-year-old Cuban citizen could be arrested nearby. After his arrest, the man was taken to the Rennweg police inspection on Katschberg, where he was interrogated. In the course of these investigations, the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs and Asylum (BFA) issued an order order against him. The suspect was then transferred to the Villach police retention center. He now faces the suspicion of burglary and was reported to the Klagenfurt public prosecutor.
security situation in Austria
The police crime statistics (PKS) recorded and represents the development of criminal events in Austria. Since 2001, all reports displayed have been electronically registered, which enables a comprehensive overview of crime development. The PKS is an important source of information for strategic criminal police planning measures. It supports both preventive and repressive fight against crime. It should be noted that the statistics only record crimes that were displayed by the police and transmitted to courts. Dark field of crime and the starting values of the court proceedings are not taken into account.
The PKS is regularly updated to social changes and legal adjustments, as last in April 2025. Security reports created by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Justice provide extensive insights into criminal policy developments and are an important instrument to combat crime in Austria. It can be seen that the display behavior of the population, the police control intensity and legal changes have a significant impact on the PKS figures.
The promptly for the observance of burglary theft, as in this current case, offers an insight into the challenges with which the police investigation are confronted. The active participation of civil society is all the more important to report suspicious activities and thus contribute to the prevention of crime.
