Mourning in Hard: Harder Abendenvis because of the killing spree canceled!
As a result of the tragic killing spree at Borg Dreienschützengasse in Graz, in which a 21-year-old demanded numerous victims, the Austrian authorities and the population triggered a wave of grief and solidarity. The Federal Government has proclaimed a three -day state mourning to commemorate the victims and to stand up for their relatives. Therefore, the Harder evening tour planned for June 12, 2025 in Hard was canceled how Vol.at reported.
The cancellation took place in close coordination between the Hard economic community and the market town of Hard. The organizers express their sympathy for those affected and their relatives and plan to set a new appointment in summer. The population was thanked for their understanding and support in these difficult times.
cancellation of events in Styria and beyond
The effects of the killing spree can be felt throughout Austria. Organizers from art, culture and science have canceled numerous events to express their grief. Some important events are affected in Styria, including:
- ski opening Schladming-Dachstein on June 18
- Raising the rainbow flags on the Graz Schlossberg
- "An evening with words and music" in the Kunsthalle Graz on June 12th
- Reading by Marlene Streeruwitz on June 11th in the Literaturhaus Graz
- concerts on the floor jazz on June 11th and 12th
Overall, numerous events in Graz and Styria as well as in Carinthia and other federal states have changed or canceled their program. This also includes regional events and festivals that were postponed indefinitely, such as the farmers' market in Hartberg and numerous concerts in Leoben. This pattern of cancellations runs through the entire country, which gives the Austrian public a sign of solidarity.
reactions of the government and the political leadership
The reactions of politicians and authorities are consistently shaped by horror. Chancellor Stocker described the killing spree as a national tragedy and referred to the incredible consequences for society. Federal President Van der Bellen also spoke of a "horror" that cannot be put into words. In a separate minute of mourning, the Federal Government will be dedicated to commemorating the victims, as orf.at.
The flags on the parliamentary roof were put on half mast to pay respect for the victims. The state party events in various federal states such as the Styrian ÖVP and the KPÖ were also canceled, as well as events at the FPÖ. All public events in Graz and Styria were canceled for the same reason, which makes it clear how deeply the incident met society.
The appeal after cohesion in such difficult times is supported by representatives of all political camps, including Vice Chancellor Babler and Interior Minister Karner. There was also sympathy internationally, including from the Ukrainian President Selenskyj. The EU Commission described the news as "absolutely terrible" and expressed its sympathy for those affected.
