Coach change at the champions: Oliver David leaves EC Red Bull Salzburg!

After two successful years as a coach, Oliver David is leaving EC Red Bull Salzburg and moving to EHC Red Bull Munich as head coach. Despite an ongoing contract with the Salzburg “Bulls”, David took this step amicably. Under his leadership, the team won the win2day ICE Hockey League title in both seasons.

David, who is 46 years old and has previously had coaching positions in Biel and Munich, emphasizes that his move to Munich was only possible thanks to his successful work in Salzburg. Last season, the team reached the quarterfinals of the international competition, the Champions Hockey League (CHL), which is considered the second-best result in the club's history.

Successful era in Salzburg

In his two years as head coach, David led EC Red Bull Salzburg to a total of three titles in a row, making the club the dominant force in the Austrian league. For his outstanding achievements, he was awarded the Golden Lion, the Salzburger Nachrichten's prize for coach of the year. The successes are not only due to his skills, but also to the collaboration with his coaching staff, which includes Ben Cooper, Daniel Petersson and Markus Kerschbaumer.

After moving to Munich, he faces the challenge of restructuring the team after the EHC failed in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last year. The club, which has already celebrated several successes in the DEL, hopes to return to the top under David's leadership.

Outlook and thanks

EC Red Bull Salzburg has said goodbye to Oliver David, whose commitment and successes have contributed significantly to the positive development of the club, and wished him much success for the future. Information about a successor or the timeline for the search has not yet been announced.

Oliver David emphasizes that he will always remember the teamwork and solidarity that led to the championships. Transitions in ice hockey are often tumultuous and the change of such a successful coach raises questions. Nevertheless, David will be remembered as a key figure in the development of hockey in the region.
