Special campaign in Tyrol: Police discover 135 violations during truck checks!

A 24-hour special operation to improve safety in heavy traffic was carried out in Tyrol on October 23, 2025. The operation began at 6 a.m. and ended at 6 a.m. the following day. The institutions involved were the police, ASFINAG and regional control bodies, which aimed to check compliance with road traffic regulations. The operation took place on the B178, also known as Loferer Straße, and supported the inspection by technicians from the ASFINAG test train.

A total of 113 heavy vehicles were checked during the special operation. Several violations came to light that put the supervisory authorities on alert. 135 violations regarding driving and rest times were identified, which indicates a disregard for social regulations. Technical defects were also identified in 35 cases, including problems with tires, wheel bearings, braking and lighting.

Detected violations and measures

There were also 7 violations in connection with dangerous goods regulations and 9 violations of the sectoral driving ban. These results prompted immediate action. Five drivers were temporarily banned from continuing their journey, while another driver had his license plate taken away. Two drivers are reported on suspicion of manipulating driving and rest times.

Preliminary alcohol tests were carried out on all drivers, with one driver also being reported for exceeding the 0.5 per mille limit. What is significant is that five vehicles were only allowed to be used again after the identified defects had been corrected. Overall, the operation showed that compliance with the required regulations is of central importance.

Legal framework

As the ADAC reports, commercial drivers must adhere to strict driving and rest times. The maximum daily driving time is 9 hours and can be increased to 10 hours on two days per week. Drivers must use their driver cards to document driving and rest times. The maximum weekly driving time is limited to 56 hours; the double-week driving time must not exceed 90 hours.

The legal regulations also stipulate that the rest period of 11 hours must not be spent in the vehicle. Violations of these regulations can have costly consequences for drivers and operators, with fines of up to 5,000 euros for serious violations. These strict regulations are intended to help increase safety in road traffic, especially in heavy traffic.

The successful 24-hour special operation in Tyrol highlights the need for consistent controls and enforcement of the applicable regulations to ensure safety on the roads. Further information on driving and rest times can be found on the ADAC website.
