Farewell to Sepp Forer: A freedom fighter goes forever

Ladis, Österreich - Sepp Forer, the last of the legendary “Pusterer Buam”, died in exile in Ladis near Landeck at the age of 84. He was not only a central protagonist in the South Tyrolean struggle for freedom, but also a symbol of resistance to Italian rule. Forer died, after he had been given a life sentence in the absence with a lifelong prison sentence for decades, confidently and in the shadow of his political beliefs. Sepp Forers Weg as a freedom fighter started early. At the age of 21 he joined the South Tyrolean resistance to fight the radical Italization policy. Together with his colleagues, he carried out numerous attacks, including on electricity pylons. Despite his bitter struggles, he was charged with the murder of a Carabinieri official, which led to a lifelong prison sentence in his absence in Italy. Forer, however, was able to flee to North Tyrol and built up a new life where he lived with his family, until his death, such as the daily newspaper . In his lifetime, he tirelessly defended his beliefs and left a lasting impression as a pioneer for South Tyrol's right to self -determination.

The Tyrolean FPÖ and the South Tyrolean Schützenbund praised Forers tireless commitment to freedom and the right to homeland. "His legacy will guide us," said Member of the Landtag Gudrun Kofler. Sven Knoll from South Tyrolean freedom also emphasized the loss of a true patriot and mentioned that the crimes that are attributed to the "Pusterer Buam" would finally have to be informed. Forers life and struggle will remain inspiration for many South Tyroleans and remember the importance of love of home and self -determination.
