Raid in Fügen: Perpetrator quickly caught after bank robbery!

Fügen, Österreich - On May 28, 2025, an armed robbery occurred on a bank branch in Fügen in the Tyrolean Zillertal. The incident began shortly after 4:00 p.m. when a man with a "pistol -like object" threatened two female employees and demanded cash. One of the employees complied with the claim and gave him the money. After the robbery, the perpetrator fled south on foot without any injuries to complain. The exact amount of the captured money is previously unknown, as reported.

Even before the attack, the police had been asked for indications of "suspicious perceptions". Bank employees had observed how a hooded man was striking and went back and forth before the bank branch. He was later identified as an 23-year-old who is accused of committing this act. Although he denied the allegation, he confessed to the interrogation and stated that he had "acted out of money", according to [Kleine Zeitung] (https://www.kleinezeitung.at/service/newsticker/chronik/19739171/ueberfall-auf-tiroler-bank-mann-zuvor-vor-zor-zor-bewe- Raub).

search measures and arrest

After the attack, a comprehensive alarm search was initiated, which also included a helicopter and dog relay. The suspect was arrested around half an hour after the robbery during a car control in the Zillertal. This successful arrest marked the end of an intensive search that was completed at 6:30 p.m.

The perpetrator was described as rather young, with a narrow stature, gray hoodie and gray cap. He had apparently planned a second robbery, which indicates a potential series of offenses. Last year there was an accumulation of bank robberies in Tyrol, a total of ten raids within one year. Two people were charged at the end of April to be responsible for five of these raids. The uncertainties about the background of bank raids in Innsbruck in October 2023 and in Kufstein in November 2024 continue to exist, as ORF Tirol indicates.
