From Gößnitz to Mexico: Lisa's success story in the leather industry

Lisa Dobler, a Styrian entrepreneur from Gößnitz, has made a name for herself in the leather industry. What started as a small dream in her home village has developed into a successful business that extends far beyond the borders of Austria. In 2018, she founded her “Lebenspiece” company in the Mexican city of Santiago de Querétaro, which specializes in the production and sale of high -quality leather goods.

After graduating from the HLW lipizzan home and studying in Graz, Lisa took the step into the adventure abroad. From Mexico she also lived in New Zealand for a while, which should expand her perspectives and enlarge her horizon. In Mexico she first experienced a cultural shock because she had no knowledge of Spanish. Nevertheless, they impressed the warm people and the open culture of the country. This positive experience finally led her to make roots in Mexico.

The way to the company

During her master's studies, Lisa Dobler was given the opportunity to stay in Mexico for three semesters, which helped her to settle into the culture and the world of work in the country. In 2018 she opened her business “life” in a modest 13 square meter shop and initially employed ten employees. The connection to their Austrian homeland aroused the curiosity of the Mexicans and soon the small boutique became a popular starting point for leather goods. Despite the challenges that the pandemic brought with it for small business owners, Lisa used the time to return with new designs and expand their product range. Today she heads a team of 21 employees and produces impressive 2,100 pieces of leather goods per week, which range from leather bags to personalized menu cards.

Lisa is currently on the Milan Fashion Week, where she exhibits her products and networked with other experts from the industry. Her work was even recognized in the international journal World Leather Magazine, which underlines her growing importance in the leather industry.

Sustainability in the leather industry

The "Lebenspiece" brand stands for real leather products that are manufactured using natural tanning processes that correspond to the strict guidelines of the European Union. Lisa and her team want to educate consumers about the advantages of real leather and highlight the differences to synthetic alternatives. Real leather has the advantage that it can be produced sustainably and enables high resource use. In contrast, many vegan leather alternatives are based on synthetic fabrics that can be harmful to the environment.

Lebenspiece is actively involved in social media and communicates with universities to raise awareness of the leather industry and its sustainable practices. Lisa Dobler sets itself the goal of educating the next generation about the importance of real leather and supporting it in your purchase decision.
