At the Askö Federal Championships, which recently took place in Linz, the Masters quintet of the Atus Judenburg swimming section, reported from the Murtal region, managed to win an impressive total of 20 medals. 250 participants from 22 clubs competed against each other, which makes the achievement even more remarkable. The team consisted of five members: Dagmar Puffing, Fritz Gossar, Herwig Rattinger, Gernot Pirkwieser and Dietmar Hierzer.
Dagmar Puffing, who competed in the 60 age group (AK 60), showed an outstanding performance with a total of six gold medals and two runner-up titles. This means she dominated the races in her age group and swam to the top, almost unchallenged. Her teammate Fritz Gossar (AK 75) won four national championship titles, which proves his versatility and consistency in this challenge.
Further successes of the team
Herwig Rattinger (AK 75) was also successful and won both gold and silver in several disciplines. Gernot Pirkwieser, who competed in the AK 65, returned after a long break from competition and secured a gold and silver medal, so that he was able to find his way back to the medal position. Another success was the debut of Dietmar Hierzer (AK 60), who was previously known as a triathlete and achieved a bronze medal in his first swimming competition.
The Judenburg team was also able to win a gold medal in the 4x50 meter medley relay, which underlines the strong team performance. These successes not only set individualistic bright spots, but also brought the entire team into focus.
The successful appearance in Linz now enables the masters team to qualify for the “CSIT World Sports Games” in Greece. This international event not only provides a platform for competitions, but also the opportunity to compete with other athletes from around the world. Such a high number of medals and titles will certainly strengthen the motivation and team spirit among the athletes.
