Community and creativity: News from Murau-Murtal in October

In the Murau-Murtal region, there have been some remarkable events in the past few days that affect both local initiatives and cultural projects. Under the motto "Coffee with cops", citizens can talk to the police in a relaxed atmosphere. This weekly series, which took place in this form in the previous year, offers a platform to address concerns or concerns directly with a cup of coffee.

The first information stand of this initiative took place on October 1 at the post office in Judenburg. The next occasions to get to know the police and clarify questions are on October 2 at Sparkasse Knittelfeld, followed on October 3. at the municipal office in St. Mary-Feisstritz and on October 4 at Billa in Zeltweg.

parish reorganized

In the heart of Weißkirchen, the parish faces important changes. After the unexpected death of Pastor Gerald Wimmer in May, a meeting took place to reorganize the structure of the parish association Weißkirchen-Kleinfeisstritz. In an open evening in the parish church, numerous questions about future management and cooperation were discussed. Thanks to the commitment of lay people who worked in four working groups, eight people who are ready to take responsibility in a pastoral team could be found. The management of the new team will be the parish secretary Karin Leitold together with Reinhard Fußi.

Pastor Rudi Rappel expressed a positive statement about the developments in the parish life and is planning a restructuring of pastor's rooms within the Graz-Seckau diocese for 2026, which will also affect the Murtal region.

climate chamber of students

Another exciting project comes from the third grade of the HLW Fohnsdorf, which with the support of the Ottronic company has developed an innovative climate chamber. This artistic installation serves to measure vital data in trees and is intended to provide information about how trees react to climatic changes. The chamber enables precise measurements under different environmental conditions and the data collected can be easily accessed using a smartphone. Particularly impressive is the artistic design that the students have realized in class over several weeks and which visually supports the scientific concept.

cycling for a good cause

Another highlight is the upcoming charity bike tour, which takes place from Tamsweg to Murau on October 6th. Organized by Lions Club Murau in cooperation with the Lions Club Lungau, the event aims to collect donations for charitable purposes in the region. Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. at the public parking lot at the Tamsweg bathing island. Labet stations in Ramingstein and Madling are set up on the route before the participants are invited to a pasta party and a raffle in the Lercher Gasthof in Murau in the afternoon. Further information on participation is available on the website of the Lions Clubs.

The activities in Murau-Murtal show the commitment of the community to actively address important topics such as security, church structures, climate protection and social responsibility.
