Motorcycle accident in Styria: 61-year-old seriously injured!

On Friday afternoon, a serious motorcycle accident occurred in the Bruck Mürzzuschlag district in Styria. Around 2:30 p.m., a 61-year-old motorcyclist from Vienna, together with two other bikers on the state road L 104 at Sankt Jakob-Breitenau, was traveling when he lost control of his vehicle in a curve and collided with an oncoming car. The more precise cause of the accident is currently unclear.

The car, directed by a 42-year-old Styrian, was accompanied by several inmates, including children aged 4 and 14 and a 35-year-old. Fortunately, everyone in the car was not injured. The motorcyclist, on the other hand, had to be flown to the university clinic with a rescue helicopter after the accident in order to take the necessary medical measures.

security situation in road traffic

This incident fits into a number of frightening statistics on motorcycle accidents in Austria. According to reports from the VCÖ, the number of deadly crashed motorcyclists remained in 82, despite a general decline in the racing dead. In the past three years, a total of 297 motorcyclists have died, with 80 percent of the fatal accidents on open -air roads. The sections are often affected there with a speed limit of 100 km/h.

It is particularly alarming that almost three quarters of the fatal accidents (72 percent) were caused by motorcyclists themselves. The main cause of this is often not adapted to the speed, followed by carelessness and distraction. These statistics illustrate the need for increased security measures to minimize the risk of motorcyclists.

age and gender The accident victim

A look at the demographic data shows that 94 percent of the fatally crashed motorcyclists are men. The most affected age group are 50 to 64-year-olds, who with 35 percent represent the highest proportion of the victims. The regions with most fatal motorcycle accidents between 2021 and 2024 are Upper Austria, followed by Lower Austria and Styria.

The VCÖ therefore urgently calls for measures to increase safety when driving motorcycles, especially on the risky open -air roads. In order to reduce the number of accidents, drivers in particular have to be informed about the dangers of inadequate speed and inattentiveness.
