Summer criticizes government: bankruptcies endanger 106 jobs in Lower Austria

Niederösterreich, Österreich - On May 31, 2025, the FPÖ Niederösterreich spokesman LAbg. Michael Sommer commented on the bankruptcy of two freight forwarders who were reported in Lower Austria and Burgenland. After summer, the causes of these bankruptcies are to be found in over-regulation and in an economic approach referred to as "eco-communism". Due to the bankruptcy, 106 employees lose their jobs.

Sommer blames the current government, consisting of the black and green coalition and the Murks-Stampel, for the predicament of the companies. He calls for tax relief and reduction in bureaucracy to give entrepreneurs in Austria the opportunity to make money. To do this, he criticizes the influence of the government on the business location and pleads to release budgets for relief.

demands for changes in asylum beings

A central point in summer argument is the demand to stop luxury payments to asylum seekers. He would like to redirect the funds in order to enable more support for domestic entrepreneurs. Sommer also calls for an end to minimum security for asylum families in the amount of 9,000 euros.

These statements come at a time when the Austrian business location continuously loses relevance. According to a report by the press, labor productivity has experienced a decline since 2002, from about 2% per year after the EU accession to currently less than 0.5%. In addition, Austria fell to 24th place in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2023 after it was still 16th in 2020.

restructuring measures as a solution

In view of the increasing insolvency figures and forecasts for 2025, which indicate further industrial bankruptcy, the EU Directive 2019/1023 could offer a ray of hope. This aims to give a second chance of giving payable companies and facilitates access to restructuring measures. Important components of this guideline include regulations for the restructuring of debtors and measures to increase insolvency proceedings.

An early warning system for debtors should enable to become aware of financial difficulties in good time and to receive access to consulting services. These strategies could be urgently needed in Austria to secure economic stability and save jobs.

Overall, the combination of Michael Sommer's demands shows a complex situation that offers both challenges and potential for future measures.
