Security measures in Lignano: Strict rules for the Pentecost tourists!

In a crucial session on Tuesday afternoon, strict measures against oversized number of visitors in the Italian coastal town of Lignano were decided to regulate the Pentecost celebrations. The new regulations were adopted under the direction of prefect Domenico Lione and chief of police Domenico Farinacci. These stipulate that bars and business may only be open until 2 a.m. and 1 a.m. In addition, a bathing ban on the beach and a ban on bivouacies in the entire area will apply from 8:00 p.m. The mayor emphasized that these measures were necessary due to the problems of the previous year, caused by alcohol excesses and uncontrolled crowds. Even at the Pentecost period, more than 80,000 tourists in Lignano are expected, around 20,000 of which come from Austria. The donation income of 1,546 citizens supports the petition of the committee "Stop the neglect during the Pentecostal celebrations" and underline the pressure on the city administration quickly, such as the Kleine Zeitung reported.

Another prominent example of the fight against excessive tourism can be found in Florence, where new rules are to be implemented to combat the effects of mass tourism. The city administration plans measures that are supposed to rethink, especially among tourists. The proposals include higher fees for entry into heavily frequented sights to regulate the number of visitors. Official reported that these actions aim to improve the quality of life for both residents and visitors and to promote more sustainable tourism development, such as Der Spiegel Confirmed.
