Security in Austria: An analysis of surveys and comments on the perception of safe living conditions and local commitment.

Security or fear? What the Austrians really feel!

A heated debate about the feeling of security in the population is held in Austria. Although the statistics show a high security assessment, Sebastian Bohrn Mena expresses in his comment on OE24 that these surveys contradict the statements of some right -wing politicians who speak of a dangerous situation: "In which fear world are these people actually caught in?" He asks provocatively. According to a study by the Interior Ministry in 2023, 91 percent of the population feel safe at their place of residence, and 84 percent the country feel as safe. Nevertheless, it seems as if a constant fear and a distorted perception dominate social discussion.

Strengthen youth engagement

With social issues, it becomes clear that young people strive for changes in their immediate environment. A survey by the Bertelsmann Foundation shows that the majority of the respondents believe that they can move more locally than at the national level. Regina von Görtz emphasizes that it is important to take young people seriously and to offer them suitable opportunities for participation. "We need precisely fitting and low -threshold participation options for young people around them," she demands and emphasizes the role of local politicians who should seek dialogue with youth. A change in mentality is crucial: "Alibi participation does not help anyone," said von Görtz.

With a serious integration, young people can experience the effectiveness of their commitment, which ultimately also strengthens democracy. The creation of structures such as youth councils could help to find their voices in local decision -making processes. Topics such as the fiber optic expansion or the design of leisure facilities could be addressed, which not only improves the feeling of security, but also promotes the feeling of togetherness in community life. The connection between the subjective sense of security and active social engagement is essential for the future of Austria, as the reports of OE24 and the Bertelsmann Foundation illustrate.
