Student union triumphs: 79% of the mandates at federal level conquered!

In the past three weeks, the elections for the state student representative representative for the school year 2025/26 took place in Austria. According to OTS was the nationwide motto of the elections "#feel-dudasauch?". A total of ten teams from the student union competed in the various school types such as AHS, BMHS, BS and ZLA.

The student union has clearly prevailed in the state student representatives of the nine federal states and secured 125 out of 163 mandates. 23 out of 29 mandates were reached at the level of the Federal Student Representation. Federal chairman Vincent Reisner described the election result as confirmation of the work of the student union. The next elections for the Federal Student Representation are pending in autumn.

The success in Lower Austria was particularly remarkable, where the student union 48 of 48 mandates won. This means that they fill all seats and the three positions of the state school spokesman in the areas of AHS, BMHs and vocational schools. The team is listed by Marko Belic (AHS), Hannah Scheidl (BMHS) and Magdalena Seitinger (BHS). The state chairman Jan Görlich emphasized the importance of the result for the representation of the interests of all students in this state. Warehouse manager Marco Gayer and the state director Linda Kagerer emphasized the need for an active student representative and asked young people to take responsibility.

The student union has developed into the largest student organization in Austria and is over 30,000 members. It offers a variety of services, including a school law emergency call and various further training courses for students.

The structure of the student representative

The student representative in Austria is structured in a pyramid manner and enables students to be active at various levels. The members are elected in the various schools as class representatives, departmental spokesman, vintage spokesman and school spokesman. At the excess level, the state student representatives (LSV) and the Federal Student Representation (BSV) are formed, which represent the interests of the students. In the school year 2021/22, student union 22 out of 29 mandates in the BSV, which further strengthened their influence. The federal school spokeswoman Susanna Öllinger is also part of the student union, which illustrates the committed use of the organization.

With a view to the upcoming challenges, the student union will endeavor to further strengthen the voice of the students and actively represent their interests.
