Scheibbs is experiencing historic political change: SPÖ appoints new mayor!
In a dramatic change in the political landscape in Austria, the Social Democrats (SPÖ) and the Citizens' List for the Environment and Common Good Scheibbs (BUGS) have formed a coalition. This follows the recent local council election, in which the SPÖ increased its vote by nine percent, while the ÖVP suffered defeat, losing 18 percent of support. The previous mayor Franz Aigner from the ÖVP will be replaced by the 34-year-old teacher David Pöcksteiner from the SPÖ. This marks the first time that a Social Democratic mayor has taken over the leadership in the district capital of Scheibbs meinkreis.at reported.
Strong partnership for the future
The coalition between SPÖ and BUGS comes into being after Mayor Gerhard Weil of the SPÖ and Rainer Windholz held talks with various parties. It turned out that the citizens' list, which was able to hold around 15 percent of the votes, were the ideal partners for collaboration. “We have worked together very positively for the last ten years,” emphasized Weil, which strengthens hopes for a successful and sustainable partnership noen.at.
The new coalition partners have set themselves clear goals: ensuring medical care, solving the space problem in elementary schools and strengthening the city center are the top priorities. However, the challenges posed by the municipality's financial situation should not be underestimated, which requires close cooperation between all parties represented on the municipal council. As the coalition partners announced, a constituent meeting will take place by March 11th at the latest, in which all roles and tasks will be distributed.
