Putin plays temporary: Trump's peace plans for Ukraine fail!
Donald Trump recently announced that the Ukraine war quickly ended. However, this assessment comes at a time when Trump's earlier peace efforts are considered unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin is not very cooperative and continues to play in the conflict. According to Dmitri Peskow, the spokesman for the Russian Presidential Office, it is crucial for Russia to win the conflict. He described Putin's military decisions as "absolutely correct" and emphasized the duty of Russia to be victorious. Despite the tense situation, Russia is grateful for the US peace efforts and is ready for direct consultations with Ukraine. However, Kyiv has not yet responded to the offers.
Putin is open to peace and work intensively with the USA. Nevertheless, Peskow said that the complexity of the conflict made quick progress difficult. Moscow insists on the recognition of the four annexed Ukrainian regions, which also stands in the way of the peace process. Experts are increasingly doubting that Putin has serious attempts at peace. They warn that the situation is critical and that the path to a permanent peace could be rather lengthy.
Russian military presence
In a further step, Putin signed a decree that orders the posting of troops to eastern Ukraine to ensure "peace" in the self -proclaimed folk republics Luhansk and Donetsk. These troops were sent from Russia to the conflict region after Putin recognized the areas controlled by Prorussian separatists as independent states. The decision to station it was sharply criticized internationally.
The United States has heavily attacked Russia in the UN Security Council and described the troops used as no peace troops. UN Unter-General Secretary Rosemary Dicarlo regrets Putin's command for stationing and warned that the next few hours and days will be decisive. The risk of a larger conflict is real, which has triggered international concern.
International reactions
The Albainian UN ambassador Ferit Hoxha expressed concerns and asked who the next one could be while the Indian ambassador T.S. Tirumurti warned. The British ambassador Barbara Woodward asked Russia to withdraw, while Brazil asked for an immediate ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine.
Overall, the situation in Ukraine remains tense, and the prospects for a quick solution are more than questionable. While Trump tries to bring about peace, there is resistance on many fronts - both politically and militarily. It remains to be seen whether a real dialogue is actually possible with Moscow.
