On the evening of May 30, 2025, a car on the B 164 broke in flames at 6:00 p.m. in the B 164. The 34-year-old driver, a German citizen, was served by Maria Alm to his family. The family noticed smoke from the bonnet and was able to leave the vehicle in good time at the nearest parking lot. The fire brigade served consisting of 30 emergency services and was supported by a vehicle of the Hinterthal fire truck. Fortunately, no people were injured, but the vehicle burned out completely. The police initiate an investigation into the exact cause of the fire, but suspects a technical ailment on the engine as a trigger.
The B 164 was closed until 6:45 p.m. and was only driven on by 8:00 p.m. The Pinzgau road maintenance department took care of the signage during the traffic disruptions. The burned -out vehicle was removed by a towing company.

Also on May 30, 2025, another car fire occurred in the Tauern tunnel, about 100 meters after the north portal. A 39-year-old handlebar noticed strong smoke in the front area of his vehicle when entering the tunnel, which was transported on a trailer. In the same way, he coupled the burning car from the trailer, which prevented worse. Around 40 firefighters from Flachau and Zederhaus were on duty to extinguish the fire. The fire brigade was able to control the fire until around 11:10 a.m. and no injuries were reported. Here, too, the police suspect a technical ailment in the engine compartment as a cause of the fire.
The tunnel lock formed a kilometer -long backlog until the tunnel tube could be reopened at around 11:30 a.m. in the direction of Salzburg and at around 12 noon in the direction of Villach.
