ÖFB under new leadership: Pröll announces large reforms!
Aspern, Österreich - The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) held its first constituent meeting on Friday as a supervisory board. Josef Pröll was elected as the new chairman of the supervisory board and expressed his desire for more calm in the association after the past few years were shaped by public quarrels. In the future, he announced that he will provide transparent information about the decisions of the association and report on the decisions. In the first three weeks of his term of office, Pröll had numerous talks and described himself as the "garbage funnel" of the ÖFB to bundle the different concerns.
Pröll also expressed that the collaboration between the Secretary General Thomas Hollerer and Managing Director Bernhard Neuhold was in need of improvement, but he put the necessary trust in both. The new chairman of the supervisory board is not planning any personnel changes and also sees no need for the immediate search of a new CEO.
structural reform of the ÖFB
The structural reform of the ÖFB was also discussed as part of the session. This aims to shift the skills towards the main office. In the future, the ÖFB Presidium will act as a supervisory board, which was decided in a virtual meeting with a large majority. The ÖFB President will also be chair of the Supervisory Board. From now on, operational decisions are to be made by the board of the ÖFB and a managing director conference, which also includes the distribution of sports funding.
The interim president Wolfgang Bartosch was positive about the progress that was achieved at the meeting. The next step is to develop the basis of decision -making, whereby this reform must then be approved by the Annual General Meeting.
economic perspectives
Pröll and the Supervisory Board also dealt with the first strategic points for the future of Austrian football. This includes awarding a study on the business factor of football in order to evaluate the economic and integrative services. A long -term plan for the next 20 years in football is to be developed under external advice. In addition, the economy of the new ÖFB campus in Aspern was discussed; The forecasts indicate that the campus may not compensate for its loss of one million euros annually by 2029.
The official handover of the ÖFB campus is planned for July 22nd. Despite the current financial framework conditions, it is emphasized that the intended construction of a new nation stadium must not be lost out of sight, although the implementation due to current savings packages is currently not possible.
Pröll also used the session to talk to the A-National team, the sub-trainer Ralf Rangnick, and to talk about the upcoming World Cup qualification against Romania on Saturday.
Overall, the development at the ÖFB shows the efforts to set up the association of modern and professional. The presidential change and reforms are part of this comprehensive strategy.
