Prices for automotive work in the Urfahr-Umwelt district: It's worth comparing!
A current report from the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor makes it clear that it is worth comparing prices at car repair shops. This study was carried out in seven workshops in the Urfahr-Raum district. The prices for the working hours of car mechanics, car tinsmiths and car painters as well as the costs for the pickerl check were recorded. The results show significant differences in prices.
The average price for an hour of work for a mechanic is 127 euros, while plumbers and painters charge 169 euros and 170 euros respectively. Interestingly, the mechanics' hourly rate varies greatly, from a low 96 euros to 170.52 euros. For plumbers and painters, the range is between 122.10 and 208.08 euros. Compared to 2023, hourly rates have increased by around five percent.
Important tips for car owners
A helpful piece of advice for car owners is to get a written estimate before starting the job. While the cheapest price for the Pickerl check is 48 euros, the most expensive price is 84 euros. For comparison: In the whole of Upper Austria, the average fee for the Pickerl check is 68 euros, while in the Urfahr-Raum district it is 64 euros. The ARBÖ charges 64.70 euros for the inspection with a sticker throughout Upper Austria, while the ÖAMTC is cheaper at 54.50 euros.
Another point is the mechanics’ hourly rates. At ARBÖ these are 86.40 euros in the first hour and then 115.20 euros. The ÖAMTC only carries out minor repairs. It is recommended that you find out about the work to be carried out before placing the order and clarify any uncertainties regarding the invoice immediately.
In addition, it is advisable to set a price limit, especially if a workshop is looking for possible faults in the vehicle. For older vehicle models, the diagnostic costs could even exceed the vehicle value. Some workshops offer pickerl checks as part of an annual service free of charge or at reduced prices, which offers further savings potential. Further information can be obtained directly from the workshops.
