Sports Medal of Honor 2023: Steyr athletes and volunteers honored

The 40th award ceremony of the Sports Medal of Honor took place in beautiful Steyr, where numerous outstanding athletes and officials were recognized for their achievements. Sports City Councilor Christian Baumgarten and Mayor Markus Vogl welcomed those present in the magnificent ballroom of the town hall. This event highlighted the impressive achievements of the local sporting community.

Those honored include 13 volunteer officials and 12 athletes. The gold sports medal, which was awarded to committed personalities, was particularly highlighted. The winners in this category include Christian Zemsauer from the ASKÖ Steyr district and Franz Stinglmeier from the ASKÖ model sports group Steyr. Helga Stockinger from the Steyr Mannlicher Rifle Guild and the six-time state canoe champion Eric Kastner also received this award. Their contributions and tireless efforts are remarkable and deserve public recognition.

Special honors for athletes

The Sports Medal of Honor for athletes was also awarded. Tobias Gruber was awarded the Silver Medal of Honor after winning the gold medal in the Super-G at the 2023 Schibob World Championships. Several athletes were also honored with bronze, including Viktoria Zoister and Johanna Hiesmair. These achievements demonstrate the broad spectrum of talent and commitment in the region.
