On Wednesday morning, May 21, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred at 8:44 a.m. on the L1083 in Mehrnbach, Ried district, Upper Austria. Two men aged 63 and 78, both from the Ried district, were involved in the accident. The 63-year-old driver intended to turn left into a house driveway, but overlooked the 78-year-old's oncoming vehicle. There was a head-on collision between both vehicles.
The consequences of the accident were serious: both men suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to Ried Hospital after receiving initial treatment. The two vehicles were completely destroyed in the collision, resulting in a total loss. While the accident was being recorded, the L1083 was completely closed and the Mehrnbach and Aurolzmünster fire departments were deployed with 29 personnel to deal with the situation. A detour has been put in place to direct traffic.
High number of accidents in Austria
Another serious traffic accident that occurred in the past occurred on November 11, 2024 on the B3 in the municipality of Saxen. A car and a minibus were involved, and the 46-year-old driver, who was coming from the direction of Perg, ended up in the oncoming lane. There was a collision with the car of a 47-year-old driver, causing both drivers to become trapped in their vehicles. The injuries of the three people involved were of an unspecified degree.
Both vehicles were also totaled and the B3 was completely closed in the area of the accident from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In this case, one of the injured people was even transported to a hospital in a rescue helicopter, while the others were taken in emergency vehicles for medical treatment, reports Fireworld.
