New MRI machine in Ried: waiting times drastically reduced!

A new, modern magnetic resonance tomograph in the St. Vinzenz Diagnostic Center in Ried has ended the long waiting time for MRI examinations. The high-end tomograph from Siemens, which will only go into operation in autumn 2024, enables appointments to be made quickly within just two working days, which is a significant relief for patients. This promising development was by MyDistrict reported. The new device impresses with its particularly short tube, which makes it easier for patients with claustrophobia to carry out an examination. In addition, brain and heart MRI examinations are now possible, which expands the range of services available. Patients need a doctor's referral and, depending on their insurance, can get some of the costs back.

Critical waiting times for operations

Despite this positive development in the field of imaging, the situation with waiting lists for operations remains tense. In a recent update, various waiting times for planned procedures at the hospital were announced, including 25 weeks for hip and knee replacements and up to 31 weeks for nasal polyps in children, according to the health park's website Sisters of Mercy Ried informed. These long waiting times particularly affect procedures that may deviate from standard times due to individual medical needs. Patients are encouraged to express their wishes early in order to obtain a suitable appointment, although despite our best efforts, adherence to the stated waiting times cannot be guaranteed.

The introduction of the new MRI technology is in clear contrast to the long waiting times in other areas, which illustrates the dissatisfaction of many patients. A look at both facets shows the challenges facing healthcare in the region.
