Bechterew's disease: support and therapy in the Bad Ischl district

Since 1984, the Austrian Association of Bechterew's disease (ÖVMB) has had valuable support for people who suffer from the inflammatory rheumatic disease of Bechterew's disease. With around 1,600 members from all federal states, the organization offers a variety of help in the areas of exercise, advice and encounter. This support is particularly important in order to assist those affected in everyday life.

Bechterew's disease, also known as axial spondyloarthritis, is associated with intensive pain, which occurs in episodes and often lead to a strongly limited movement ability of the spine. To help patients, the ÖVMB has set itself the goal of improving the quality of life of those affected and giving them a stronger voice in medical and social law matters.

Versatile advisory services

The ÖVMB offers its members extensive advice. The quarterly journal "Bechterew's disease active", which informs about new developments and research, is often estimated. There is also an online area for members who provide in-depth articles and information. In every federal state, personal advisory work is carried out, in which experienced employees support those affected with their knowledge. In addition, specialists organize regular lectures on relevant topics.

In addition to drug therapy, a central element for the treatment of Bechterew's disease is also moving. The ÖVMB has set up 48 therapy groups throughout Austria, which offer gymnastics once a week under the guidance of specialized therapists. In the Gmunden district, interested parties can take part in the group in Bad Ischl, which takes place every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the cardiovascular center. The coordination of this group is responsible for Claudia Moser, on 0664 1254057 or via emailclaudiaischlberg1@gmail.comcan be contacted directly.

Importance of social exchange

Another essential part of the activities of the ÖVMB is to promote social exchange between the members. In addition to the weekly training sessions, the organization also organizes numerous events in which the participants can share experiences with each other. This platform is particularly valuable for young people affected by the older members and are encouraged to live a fulfilling life despite their illness.

In view of the fact that the diagnosis of Bechterew's disease is often only carried out after many years, the public awareness of the public is important. The aim is to strengthen awareness of this disease and to deepen the knowledge of the disease both in the general public and among those affected. Regular movement should be demonstrated so that it has positive effects on the course of the disease and contributes to improving the quality of life.
