Number of cars in the Ried district continues to increase: What does that mean for us?

A current analysis of the Austria (VCÖ) Verkehrs Club shows that the district of Ried in Upper Austria has recorded an increase in the number of cars per 1,000 inhabitants. Specifically, the numbers on 685 cars rise, which corresponds to a plus of three vehicles compared to the previous year, while in Linz, where there is a lowest value with 502 cars per 1,000 inhabitants nationwide, a decline can be observed. This has called the traffic experts on the scene. Michael Schwendinger from the VCÖ emphasizes that a variety of mobility offers in urban areas are better accessible on foot and by bike, which leads to the acceptance of the vehicles, such as MeinDzirk reported.

The ranking of the car density

With an increase in the number of vehicle, the Ried district is in second place in Upper Austria. For example, while Schärding ranks at 675 and Braunau for 663 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, the Eferding district is the leader. The VCÖ therefore calls for measures to reduce car addiction, especially in rural areas. This includes regular public transport connections, even at night and on weekends, and the optimal connection to national train lines, according to the experts.

The district of Ried, which was founded in 1868 and now comprises 36 municipalities, has an area of 584.96 km². The area is politically relevant and is primarily shaped by the city of Ried in the Innkreis. These changes underline the need for strategic traffic planning in order to meet the increasing number of vehicles and the associated problem in one of the most regional holiday resorts in Austria. Particular attention is paid to the numerous traffic connections, such as wikipedia determined.
