Kirchberg mourns Franz Zehntner: A life for peace

Franz Zehntner, the former mayor of Kirchberg near Mattighofen, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. He leaves a significant legacy in the region and will be remembered as a central figure in the political life of the Braunau Peace District.

Georg Wojak, the former district captain and Zehntner's companion, expressed shock at the loss. He emphasized that Zehntner has done a lot for the community. "He was not only an outstanding politician, but also a person who cared about the weaker people in our society. He was passionate about social justice and brought people together regardless of their political affiliation," said Wojak.

Political successes and projects

Franz Zehntner resigned as mayor in October 2020. During his term in office, he pushed forward the development of a modern water supply for Kirchberg and was significantly involved in the general renovation of the elementary school and kindergarten. He also carried out the renovation and expansion of the fire station as well as numerous new road construction and renovation projects.

His commitment goes beyond technical improvements. In critical events such as the tent festival accident in Frauschereck, the flood disasters or the refugee crisis, Zehntner showed that he was always looking for constructive and humane solutions. “His work was characterized by humanity and initiative,” Wojak continued. “He was not just a politician, but a real firefighter in times of crisis.”

Zehntner had deep roots in the community, demonstrating his ability to provide calm and stability in difficult times. “He was a reliable partner and a friend for all of us,” added Wojak, recalling that, beyond his political work, Zehntner was known as an ambassador for peace and freedom who firmly opposed fascism.

His sudden demise leaves a void in the community and among his friends. Franz Zehntner will be remembered as a model politician, someone who always fought for the well-being of his fellow human beings. "I am incredibly sad about the loss of such a valued friend and colleague. Rest in peace, Fronz!" Wojak said at the end.
