Pöchlarn's rowers triumph: six medals at the championship!
The rowers of URV Pöchlarn achieved a remarkable success at the Austrian Championships in Villach that is unparalleled in the club's history. A total of five medals, including three gold medals, were won at this competition. “A truly great weekend for the club,” enthused Gerhard Wolfsberger, the club’s sports director.
Particularly outstanding was the performance of Emma Gutsjahr, who not only successfully defended the title in the women's single sculls, but also left behind Laura Swoboda, who achieved sixth place at the U23 World Championships. This was the first gold medal for the Pöchlarn women in this discipline and an exciting moment for everyone involved.
Young talents shine
14-year-old Mia Profoss also stepped into the spotlight and showed off her skills by taking first place in the individual time trial. She started in two classes: the student one and the junior B one. She won a silver medal among the juniors and showed early on what talent she had with her two-time effort. Her club colleague Lara Öckmayer was also successful and took third place in the junior B singles.
The two rowers harmonized perfectly when they competed together in the Junior B double scull in the A final. However, after a strong run, they narrowly had to admit defeat and took silver. It is clear that these young athletes have a promising future in rowing.
Elias Öckmayer secures gold
Elias Öckmayer, also a member of the URV Pöchlarn, could not be beaten in the student singles. He won the individual time trial and confidently separated himself from the competition in the A final, winning the title of state champion. In the Junior B double sculls he competed with Paul Gutsjahr, but had to settle for fourth place after they narrowly missed the podium.
Unfortunately, Paul Gutsjahr was unlucky when he was hit by a strong wave in the junior B sculls during the time trial and his boat capsized, making it impossible for him to take part in the finals. These challenges show how unpredictable competitive sports can be.
The conclusion of the championships was the competition of the men's masters eight from Pöchlarn. With a purely club line-up, they were able to bravely hold their own against the strong racing communities, but in the end there wasn't much missing and they took fourth place. These achievements demonstrate the high quality of training and the cohesion within the club.
URV Pöchlarn's successes at the Austrian Championships demonstrate not only the talent, but also the hard work and commitment that the athletes invest in their sport. We can already look forward to seeing what successes the next period will bring.
