On Saturday evening, November 16th, a remarkable search operation was launched in Lower Austria after an 84-year-old man from Vienna was reported missing. The police received the alarm at 7:30 p.m. The older gentleman got lost in the Donau-Au in the municipality of Spillern, Korneuburg district. Despite intensive telephone contact, he was unable to provide his location, which made the situation challenging for the emergency services.

A police patrol was able to find the missing man, who was uninjured but hypothermic, in the damp floodplain area near a ditch. The Lower Austria State Police Directorate confirmed that the 84-year-old was quickly brought to safety. He was transported out of the difficult terrain in a police vehicle and handed over to the rescue workers. He was then safely admitted to the Stockerau State Hospital.
Overall, the search operation demonstrated the efficient cooperation of several emergency services.
