Lower Austria active: Sports offensive for children inspires communities!

Niederösterreich, Österreich - On May 30, 2025, the new “Lower Austria Active” project was launched to inspire children and young people for club sport. This cooperation project of the sports roof associations ASKÖ, ASVÖ and Sportunion is funded by the state of Lower Austria. The aim is to develop and implement new sports offers that not only strengthen the basic physical skills such as running, jumping and climbing, but also promote the sense of community and social interaction.

The project not only arouses interest in sports, but is also an answer to the increasing lack of exercise, which was found in many children and adolescents. “Lower Austria active” aims to create attractive sports offers that support both communities and clubs. This initiative is intended to promote the youngsters in a targeted manner and increase the number of members in the clubs. The close networking with schools, clubs and local partners is another important aspect of the project.

strengthening the volunteer and the club structures

A focus of the project is to strengthen the volunteer by the training of new trainers. The club supervisors of the sports roof associations offer support in the establishment of new sports offers and the acquisition of new members. This is particularly important because the strengthening of existing club structures is essential. The importance of health promotion through sport cannot be assessed highly enough. According to [VIBSS] (https://www.vibss.de/vereinsmanagement/vereins development/jugend/gesundheitfoerderung-in-der-kinder-und-jugend-im-Sport-2), sport plays a crucial role in the personal development of children and adolescents. Lack of movement not only has a negative effects on the cardiovascular system, but can also lead to overweight and impair social and emotional development.

children with lack of exercise often have difficulty building a positive self -image and feel rather excluded in groups. In order to meet these challenges, it is essential to individually adapt health formation and sporting activities. The offers should prepare joy and enable emotional experiences to strengthen the self -esteem of the children and promote social skills.

With a salutogenetic approach, the health project sees more than just the lack of illness. It emphasizes self -determination about your own living conditions and takes into account the importance of social networks for individual well -being. This is particularly relevant because loneliness can weaken the immune system.

Overall, the “Lower Austria active” project has the potential to not only promote sport in the region, but also to sustainably improve the quality of life and social cohesion in the communities. The invitation to everyone to actively participate in the intention of creating a movement -loving, healthy future for the young generation.
