New Red Cross competence center opened in Villach: A step into the future!
The new competence center of the Villach Red Cross was officially opened on August 22, 2025. The celebration took place at Kärntner Straße 25 and is considered a significant milestone in the further development of the Red Cross work in Carinthia. The center offers modern infrastructure and combines central services to make help more accessible to the population. With this step, the Red Cross aims to act as a central point of contact for social and health services. The Vice President of the Carinthian Red Cross, Christina Summerer, emphasized that the center is intended to support people in challenging life situations in particular. In addition, a mourning café will be housed in the house, which will serve as a protected place for mourning and community in the future. Klick Kärnten reports that Red Cross President Martin Pirz describes the new center as a sign of proximity, trust and rapid help.
Six significant anniversaries were also celebrated at the opening ceremony. The selection of anniversaries illustrates the importance of the various Red Cross programs in the region. The milestones celebrated are:

The Competence Center acts as a one-stop shop where citizens can find information about first aid courses, care options and volunteer opportunities. In her speech, State Health Councilor Beate Prettner emphasized the diversity and indispensability of the Red Cross's work and referred to the importance of joint support in society. In this context, the voluntary commitment of around 14,000 volunteers who work in the social sector is essential.
