New mayoral election: Vienna municipal council on June 10th crucial!

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, decisive constituent meetings of the Vienna municipal council and the Vienna state parliament take place in the Vienna City Hall. The meetings begin at 9 a.m. in the municipal council meeting room and are of central importance for the future of the city. The Vienna municipal council and the Vienna state parliament will come together to determine the agenda for the coming years. A particularly important point on the agenda is to engage the 100 mandatar in the Vienna city parliament.

Furthermore, elections are carried out as the mayor and the Vice Mayor. The new elections to the city senate, both as well as management and non -managing city councilors, are also on the program. Afterwards, the mayor will make an explanation of the new Vienna city government, which is then discussed in a debate. Due to the multitude of topics, the current hour and the question time will be omitted in this session.

peculiarities of the session

After the meeting of the local council, the constituent meeting of the Vienna state parliament also takes place, within the framework of which the state parliament president is elected. This session can be completed at 5 p.m. at the latest. If the municipal council meeting takes longer, an interruption can occur. The public has the opportunity to follow the meetings through visitors in the town hall meeting room. Counting cards are available from the city service, if available.

Special access provisions apply to media representatives. Access to the press gallery is only possible with a press card. Accreditation for media representatives is required and can be applied for at accrediting@ma53.wien.gv.at. Previous accreditations must also take place for photo and video recordings. For all interested parties, the meeting is also transferred via Livestream to Vienna.gv.at.

Review of previous sessions

at the meeting, which took place in February 2025, was also reminded of the security situation in Vienna. Topics such as crime and dealing with youth gangs were hotly debated. Security city council Dominik Nepp (FPÖ) criticized the urban security strategy and called for a new security city council and a stronger police presence. The increase in crimes by over 10 percent was also discussed and remains an urgent problem for the city administration.
