New! Nature Park Bus 2025: Ideal for families and hiking friends!
On June 10, 2025, the Nature Park bus in the Dobratsch region was presented with new travel times and a comprehensive offer for schools and families. The official performance took place on June 6, 2025, in which numerous prominent guests from politics and the traffic sector were present. These included State Councilor Sara Schaar, Vice Mayor Sarah Katholnig and other representatives of the Villach region and the Postbus.
The cooperation of the nature park with the Villach region and the Postbus is optimized for locals and tourists. With the first driveway at 8 a.m., educational institutions are now better connected. Students, kindergarten children and adolescents up to 18 years of age can use the buses free of charge, which increases the attractiveness of the nature park for families. In addition, a special 10 euro menu for school classes in the Dobratsch huts is offered-a great opportunity to discover the region culinary.
extension of the offer
The new travel times should also make the journey of Faaker and Ossiacher See facilitate and are an invitation to the residents of the Nature Park communities. The stop at Parkplatz 6 not only offers access to the alpine gardens, but also to popular hikes to the Aichingerhütte and to the roshaft. These routes are advertised as an insider tip for the bus passengers.
A special event is imminent on August 15: The Dobratsch-Kirchtag, in which the buses also offer an adapted clock. Arrival is planned at 8:40 a.m. and an additional descent at 6 p.m. The use of the nature park bus is free of charge for all bus travelers, provided they have an experience card.
research and hoard in the nature park
As part of the Dobratsch Nature Park, new findings about a recently discovered cave system were gained. This includes karst slaughters east of the summit and has an impressive depth of 120 meters. The former mining area of Bad Bleiberg houses a multi -storey tunnel system, of which a small part was opened up for tourist purposes. Here, visitors can learn more about the history and geology of the region on exciting tunnel hikes.
The importance of these caves also extends to the protection of the species living therein, from over 740 known cave animal species to special habitats for plants and fungi. The caves also have a cultural -historical importance, as is evidenced by significant finds in the Durezzahöhle. A cooperation with L'Occitane aims to make the scientific and cultural relevance of the caves tangible through social media and information materials and to reduce the visitor.
Together with L'Occitane, cave research is also supported in order to promote new scientific knowledge and to ensure the sustainable use of the Dobratsch Nature Park. Positive feedback on collaboration came from both the Nature Park Councilor Sara Schaar and from the mayor Sarah Katholnig.
