National action plan: better protect women from violence!
Österreich - The Federal Government has taken an important step towards better protective measures for women and girls in Austria with the presentation of the "National Action Slant against Violence against Women". Women's Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ) presented the action plan on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, which has a term until 2029. The aim is to bundle the measures to protect against violence and thus make it more effective. According to the official communication of Vol.at The implementation is carried out in close cooperation with various organizations, including the Autonomous Austrian Women's Houses and the Austrian Women's and Girls advice centers.
The action plan takes into account the implementation of the Istanbul Convention and defines clear responsibilities and binding schedules. Particular attention is paid to combating digital violence, with the criminal prosecution of the undesirable sending of penis images. This problem is becoming increasingly important, and the action plan should offer extensive strategies to protect women in all areas of life.
measures to combat violence
The Federal Government has also developed a violence protection strategy for the years 2025 to 2030, which includes extensive measures to prevent and combat violence against women. This is based on a draft by Federal Minister of Women Lisa Paus, who was presented on December 11, 2024. According to the examination of 'gender -specific violence' from 2023, the numbers are terrifying: a female female is recorded in Germany almost every day and around 400 women are victims of partnerships every day. These alarming statistics illustrate the acute need for action.
The violence protection strategy includes 120 concrete measures, such as:
- Violent Aid law for free claim to protection and advice
- Law to strengthen the structures against sexual violence on children and adolescents (UBSKMG)
- Reform of the Violence Protection Act
- law against digital violence
- Entitlement to confidential evidence of evidence for affected sexual violence
All planned measures are underlaid in detail with necessary resources, schedules and responsibilities. In addition, a coordination office is set up, which is intended to strengthen the implementation of the Istanbul Convention, as on bmfsfj.de is explained.
The federal government's overarching goal is to ensure sensible integration of the measures and processes in order to effectively act against gender -specific violence. The commitment to these comprehensive protection strategies is underlined by the need to reform social structures and legal foundations in order to effectively protect women and girls.
