Magdas Hotel am Prater: A green future project awakened!

Prater, Wien, Österreich - Magdas Hotel, the social business daughter of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna, starts an ambitious revitalization project at the Prater. The hotel, which acted as a company between 2015 and 2022, is converted into a modern, ecological city hotel. The aim is to transform the former senior citizens' house from the 1970s into a social and sustainable hotel.

The conversion measures are characterized by a responsible handling of resources. The existing building is preserved and only dismantled to the support structure and intermediate walls. The use of ecological building materials and the planning of a resource -saving company should help to actively support climate protection.

award -winning environmental engagement

Magdas Hotel received a special award before the renovation: the climate -active gold, the highest quality sign in Austria for sustainable construction. With 978 out of 1,000 possible points, the project meets the highest requirements in the areas of energy efficiency, building material quality as well as comfort and health. Christian Heiss from Atelier Heiss, which is entrusted with the general planning, underlines the importance of sustainability in architecture.

The technical details show that groundwater is used for heating and cooling and a photovoltaic system on the roof covers the electricity requirement. These measures save 372.19 tons of CO₂ annually, which significantly reduces the project's ecological footprint.

future -oriented work concept

The renovation is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025 and has been completed by 2027. As the company reports, the new hotel will not only make an important contribution architecturally, but also socially made by offering people with lower job opportunities. The second Magdas Hotel is already planned for 2027 and is also embedded in this social strategy.

The project not only combines an innovative approach to revitalizing an existing building, but also relies on sustainable and social added value, which is of increasing importance in today's world. By combining environmental awareness with social aspects, Magdas Hotel shows that sustainable practices and economic interests can go hand in hand.
