Linz is planning a new management style: experts take care of culture and sport!

In a dramatic incident involving the Linz event company LIVA, the former Brucknerhaus director Dietmar Kerschbaum is once again the center of attention. After serious allegations were made against him in the spring of this year, including questionable self-dealing and one-sided programming, he was fired in July. Linz's mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ) is now under pressure after he admitted to passing on information to Kerschbaum before a crucial hearing. “I regret my behavior,” Luger admitted, admitting that he forwarded general questions to Kerschbaum in advance.

The Kerschbaum case now opens up a new dimension. The mayor said he believed Kerschbaum was a “very good choice for Linz.” Although he initially presented himself as uninformed, he now revealed that he had previously passed on questions raised by some members of the hearing commission to Kerschbaum. This raises questions about the integrity of the selection process. The new artistic director must now also tackle the controversial repositioning of the Brucknerfest.

New selection process for LIVA

With the application deadline for the two key positions ending on January 31st, LIVA is looking for people with high leadership ethics who can stabilize and further develop the cultural institution. Public trust must be restored after past scandals have significantly damaged LIVA's reputation.
