Creative excellence: Naples subway station shines at Big See Awards!

The subway station "San Pasquale" in Naples, designed by Boris Podrecca, was awarded the renowned Big See Award. This prize recognizes outstanding creative achievements in the areas of design, architecture, fashion and tourism at an international level. According to Kleine Zeitung are the main criteria for this price, aesthetic, susceptible ethics and Business potential. The design of the station reflects the motif of the sea and integrates an impressive design concept.

Podrecca traveled to Naples several times to look after the implementation of his project. An essential part of the station are two large metal panels designed by the artist Peter Kogler. These panels, which are held in blue, light blue and white tones, were made by digital printing and are reminiscent of the waves of the sea. The construction of the station was lengthy and was made more difficult by geological challenges. It is 50 meters below the road surface, with a large part of the building lying in the water.

art in the subway

"San Pasquale" is not just a traffic system, but part of the "stations of art" in Naples. This initiative includes around 200 Artworks contemporary artists who are presented in the train stations of Metro-Line 1. Well -known architects such as Alvaro Siza Vieira and Oscar Tusquets Blanca have also participated in other stations within this project. The train stations of the Neapolitan Metro are therefore considered some of the most beautiful in Europe.

The Big See Awards offer a platform for creative minds from the architecture and design industry. The competition originally emerged to promote the creative and economic potential of Southeast Europe. According to Contest Watchers , architects and designers can submit their projects in different categories, all of which have been completed in the past three years. The award ceremony takes place as part of the BIG Architecture Ljubljana Festival 2025, in which specialists and enthusiasts from all over the world come together.

public transport in change

The increasing use of public transport could be behind the design of such innovative stations. Already in 2017, an average of 31.5 million people used bus and train in the Nailnah and long-distance traffic, which corresponds to an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the previous year, such as Welt reported. This shows the trend towards an increasing number of passengers that can be attributed to the growth of population, professionals, students and students.

Innovative projects such as the "San Pasquale" subway station are therefore not only significant for architecture, but also for promoting sustainable use of public transport. The combination of art, design and functionality could help to further increase the acceptance of such systems.
