Club World Cup 2025: Salzburg in the group with the highest market value!

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 starts in the night from Saturday to Sunday with the opening game between Inter Miami and Al-Nahry. This tournament will be held in XXL format for the first time and comprises a total of 32 teams from six confederations. FIFA President Gianni Infantino intends to strengthen international football beyond Europe and to establish the club World Cup as a global challenger for the UEFA Champions League. The champion receives 110 million euros for seven victories on the way to the title, while the UEFA Champions League pays up around 2.5 billion euros as a total prize money in the season.

In the new formatting, the club World Cup will take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025. The participating teams are divided into eight groups, whereby each team has to play a maximum of one game per knockout round and no second legs are provided. The final takes place in the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New York, which will be held on July 13th. The 32 participants of the club World Cup have an impressive total market value of 10.145 billion euros.

Financial aspects and market value

among the participants, FC Salzburg has the lowest amount of entry fee among the 16 European clubs, with 12.81 million euros. The Salzburg Club takes 15th place in the ranking and plays in the group with the highest market value. This group also contains Real Madrid, Al Hilal and Pachuca. The market value of Real Madrid alone is 1.36 billion euros, while the four teams together have a total value of 1.917 billion euros.

For a win in a group game of the club World Cup, the teams receive 1.73 million euros, whereas a tie brings in half of this sum. When promoted to the round of 16, Salzburg can win a premium of 7.5 million euros. For comparison: Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain received around 150 million euros, but had to play 15 games.

the competition and the participants

The FIFA broadcasts a large part of the football business to the USA with the club World Cup, with the event attracting numerous teams from different continents in summer. Germany is represented by FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. There will be 12 European, 6 South American, 4 North American, 4 African, 4 Asian and 1 Oceanian team, also a representative of the host country, the USA.

The groups have already been determined, and Salzburg meets in Group H on Real Madrid, Al Hilal and CF Pachuca. The other groups include well-known clubs such as FC Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. The games are transmitted via Sat.1, Joyn and Ran.de, which show all the encounters in the live stream and free TV. In addition, an additional mini transfer window from 1 to June 10th is available during the tournament, in which players can only appear for a club.

The reform of the club World Cup, which FIFA sees as an opportunity to strengthen international football, is therefore an important step in order to challenge the prestigious competition of the UEFA Champions League. Despite the large prize money and international orientation, the Champions League remains the benchmark in club football.
