Young votes for health: ideas of the youth health conference
Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, Wien, Österreich - On May 27, 2025, the youth health conference of the Vienna Health Promotion-WIG took place in the 15th district, in which around 160 young people from Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus took part. Under the motto "Shaping Health", the event aimed to sensitize adults to the realities of life and needs of young people. Young people had the opportunity to present their ideas and projects for more health and well -being in everyday life.
The commitment of the young people was promoted by the support of educators and youth workers. These accompanied the young people during the event, which was designed as the highlight of a project running for several months. The conference itself is an important step to strengthen the health skills of young people between the ages of 12 and 19. The participants came from various schools and institutions that were motivated after an information event to participate in the project.
diversity of topics and workshops
The projects presented included a wide range of topics that the young people actively familiarized with health issues. These included:
- relaxation techniques for body and soul
- noise course
- football workshops
- jiu-jitsu
- First aid training
- sleep and sugar quiz
- healthy social media use
These workshops were organized in close cooperation with teachers and social institutions and enabled young people to develop creative solutions.
The youth health conference is not only a platform for the ideas of young people, but also a project of Vienna's health promotion - WIG. The implementation takes place in cooperation with the Institute for Women's and Men's Health (FEM) and the area of cultural and social research. The financing of the project comes from the pension funds of the Federal Health Agency to support health promotion in the community.
health promotion in schools
The context of this initiative is particularly relevant if you look at the challenges in front of which children and adolescents are standing today. Studies show a worrying increase in chronic diseases, including allergies and diabetes mellitus, as well as mental disorders such as depression and anxiety disorders. Schools in particular have the opportunity to support children and adolescents in their healthy development. The Culture Ministers' Conference (KMK) has emphasized the need to integrate health promotion into the educational and educational mandate since 2012.
A healthy school not only promotes the skills of the children, but also integrates central issues such as nutritional education, promotion of movement and mental health. This comprehensive concept not only supports the individual health needs of the students, but also contributes to the long -term positive development of society. The orientation and action framework for health promotion in Berlin and Brandenburg offers an important guide for pedagogical specialists.
The youth health conference of the Vienna Health Promotion is therefore a step in the right direction to actively involve young people in the design of their health and to convey the skills they need for a healthy life.
