Horn in duck fever: 210 children learn about sustainable feeding!
Horn, Österreich - On June 4, 2025, an exciting competition from the municipality of Horn took place in Horn, which dealt with the subject of ducks. As part of this event, 210 children took part who not only demonstrated their knowledge of ducks, but were also actively sensitized to the respectful use of animals. The winners were drawn by city councilors Maria van Dyck and Evelyn Schmidt and Mayor Gerhard Lentschig. The lucky winners are Dean Haindl, Karla Kaufmann, Philip Wagerer, Santino Veverka, Tobias Köck and Lina Weitl.
The event in particular had the goal of clarifying the population about the feeding ban of ducks. Feeding not only leads to health problems in the animals, but also considerably burdens the city lake. A responsible handling of nature and its inhabitants is the focus of the urban educational campaign, which in particular wants to address children.
raise awareness of animal welfare
As part of this campaign, it is advertised that feeding ducks with human food, especially with bread, is harmful to the animals. Wrong food can lead to diseases and disturb the natural behavior of the ducks. It is all the more important to clarify the children in kindergartens, elementary schools and special schools that they should give the ducks out of love for animals that is not appropriate. Through cooperation with educational institutions, awareness of the love of animals and the responsibility with nature is strengthened.
The campaign uses positive communication to convey to the children how they can protect the environment. In addition to the competition, painting competitions also take place in which the learning message is played playfully. In addition, the entire population is addressed by information and enlightenment boards that are set up around the city lake.
a step into a sustainable future
This initiative is an important part of the endeavor to make horn and its ecosystem future -proof. Similar approaches are also pursued in other cities: For example, the Berlin administration has been committed to nature and the environment for many years in order to realize sustainability goals and to promote more conscious action. Education for sustainable development is also a central solution approach that could also act as a model in Horn.
The municipality of Horn shows with this campaign that dealing with nature and its animals can not only be responsible, but also fun. It is a call to everyone, together for the preservation and protection of the environment and to promote sustainable awareness. A competition like the one is a successful start and a sign of the future.
